What It Felt Like To Be in the 5th Dimension

And the lessons I learned from being there

As originally published in Change Your Mind Change Your Life on Medium.com.

We live in a time-space reality — the 3rd dimension. But tapping into a space-time reality — the 5th dimension can show us exactly how unlimited we truly are.

The 3rd Dimension

Reality as we know it is experienced through our five senses — sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch.

Generally speaking, we only acknowledge something to be real if we can perceive it through our senses.

On this physical plane, we must move through time to get through space.

For example, it takes me 20 minutes to get from my apartment to the train station. I need time to get somewhere.

Pretty much everything takes time here. It takes time to learn, to move, to heal, to grow, etc.

And even with time we often feel limited in our knowledge, abilities, and capacity.

We are human.

But everything is energy. All things are made of atoms. And atoms are 99.9999% information, and nothing that can be perceived with our senses.

It can be argued then, that we are only perceiving less than 0.1% of all that we are and all there is.

So what would it mean if we could tap into more of what is?

I’ve been fortunate enough to experience this — twice.

The 5th Dimension

Take 1

In my teenage years, I ran track competitively. I was good enough to amass a shoebox full of medals by the time I finished school.

One day in my final year we were away for a big competition. It was near the end of the day and the relays were up.

I’d competed in numerous events at that meet so was on my last bout of energy, but the relays always fired me up again. I loved them, and I was to run the fourth leg — the final 100m of the 4x100m relay.

The gun sounded and all started well, but by the time our third runner neared, our team was so far behind that medalling seemed impossible. We were about 50m behind the person in third position.

I took the baton and started running. But we were so far behind that about 20m in, I psychologically gave up and could feel myself slowing. Then something happened.

The world fell silent and seemed to slow down. It was as if I entered a vortex. I heard one voice only. A friend on the sideline screaming “COME ON, V!”

In an instant I felt this burst of energy, of power, like never before. I was propelled forward without feeling my body weight. I passed 3 runners and in the final meter overtook the girl in third place. And so we medalled.

As I crossed the finish line, amongst the screams of excitement, I was met with disbelief from all parties. The other teams couldn’t believe what just happened. My teammates took the “holy shit” route. My coach was gobsmacked and looked at me, jaw dropped, and said “that was unbelievable.”

And it was. I sprinted 80m in the same time as others sprinted 30m.

Take 2

It was the 6th of September 2011 and raining. I was riding my motorcycle to work, on my way through central London. I was riding the speed limit and extra vigilant due to the rain.

All of a sudden a young woman walked into the street from behind parked cars. No pedestrian crossing. Eyes glued to her phone. Headphones plugged in. Once she got to the middle of the road she decided to look up from her phone and saw me just meters away. She froze like a deer in headlights.

At that moment I knew she would not move and there was no way I could break in time, especially with the wet road surface.

I vividly remember instantly feeling fury at that moment, thinking “You will not make a killer out of me!”

I heard a swooshing sound and once again the world fell silent. It was as if everything continued past me but I stayed still.

I could see every detail of every raindrop fall. It was beautiful.

There were green lights whirling around me as if I were in a vortex.

I began calculating. Calculating every possible next scenario to the very last detail.

Now, I like numbers and am pretty decent at math, but I have nowhere near the kind of knowledge I required for these calculations.

And yet I was able to work through every possible sequence of events and know their respective outcomes.

It was a knowing. And what can only be described as superhuman abilities. I felt like Neo in the Matrix scene where he dodges all the bullets. No joke. This is what it felt like.

All of the scenarios ended with her dead. Except for one.

I would have to swing my bike on a 90° slide to hit the ground at a precise speed (with me still on/under it) so that, given the wet road surface, velocity, weight of my bike, and distance to the girl, the bike would rotate 360° by the time I got to her, and it would therefore be my body that slammed into her instead of my bike.

If this is hard to imagine, this video gives a vague idea of what had to happen — only on purpose, and with me staying on/under the bike until colliding with her body.

And, on a side note, I was very comfortable on my bike, but nowhere close to ever being a stunt rider.

But still, as soon as I knew what I had to do, and more miraculously, that I would be able to, I took a deep breath and in my head said “OK, here we go.”

At that moment, the swooshing sound repeated and time resumed. Simultaneously, my superhuman physical abilities kicked in and, with my body weight, lay a 180kg bike down at 90° and into a spin.

When I regained consciousness I couldn’t move, but looked up and saw the young woman sitting on the street. Everything has been executed perfectly. And she was fine. A little sore from the fall, but fine. Me and my bike not so much, but that’s another story.

The young woman stared at me, got up and ran away. The saying “no good deed goes unpunished” came to mind.

Lessons From the 5th Dimension

1. We are much more than we know — and it’s beautiful

There is a world in which we are truly unlimited. In which we become superhuman. In which time does not exist — at least not as we know it.

The feeling is mystical, otherworldly, beautiful, profound and most of all, peaceful.

It’s easy to understand how addictive it would be if we could package the feelings and capabilities in a pill, like the 2011 movie Limitless portrayed.

2. Focus matters

How do we purposefully enter the 5th dimension? I wish I knew. But it seems extreme focus is, at least in part, what allows us to get there.

For better or worse, this level of focus often only occurs in life-or-death situations. That’s why we hear stories like the mother who lifted a car to save her child trapped underneath.

Having said that, my first experience was not life or death. It was also not nearly as intense or as “long” as my second one. Nevertheless, there was intense focus and time pressure.

It is common for athletes to talk about “getting in the zone”. I have had many “in the zone” moments too — where running feels effortless, I feel lighter and more powerful, and time feels different.

And whilst wonderful and rare, those moments are not the same as what I experienced in the 5th dimension.

Where we place our attention we place our energy.

3. The power of a cheerleader

My first experience taught me the power of a cheerleader. Had it not been for my friend’s voice cheering me on, I would not have performed the way I did. It was his voice that propelled me forward.

Having people who believe in you, even when you don’t, is priceless. May we all strive to have that in our lives and be that for others.

4. Death is nothing to fear

Experiencing the 5th dimension changed how I feel about death. I now know with certainty that this 3-dimensional experience that we are all living in is a tiny part of an endless universe of energy and consciousness.

And knowing this removes all fear of death for me, which makes living a little easier.

5. We are not invincible

Having said the above, this one is simply a reminder as we move through our 3-dimensional experience.

It means be smart. It means taking responsibility for your actions and feelings. And if you ride a motorcycle, never do so without protective gear. Whilst I didn’t walk away unscathed, I’m not sure I’d still be here without it.

…..

All these years later I’m still running and still riding.

I can only hope to one day get back into the 5th dimension, preferably without it having to be a life-or-death situation.

Most of all, I look forward to feeling that most indescribable, profound sense of peace again — whenever that may be.

Wherever you are on your healing journey, always remember that YOU ARE ENOUGH.
