Do You Feel Lost?

Maybe it’s time to stand still then

As originally published in Change Your Mind Change Your Life on Medium.com.

When life isn’t panning out quite the way we want it to, the default is often to make decisions and take action in an attempt to change directions. But these decisions are then made from a place of panic, lack of clarity or desperation. What if instead, we could learn to just stand still?

…..

Yesterday I came across a beautiful poem that reminded me of my favourite quote by Dan Millman:

Where are you? Here.
What time is it? Now.
What are you? This moment.

The poem is called “Lost”.

Lost

Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you.
If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows
Where you are. You must let it find you.

 — David Wagoner (1999)

To me, it’s a reminder that everything is energy.

The law of attraction matches us with experiences exuding vibrational frequencies equal to our own.

We all want what we want. And we want it now.

But the very nature of our impatience will prevent us from getting it.

As I was walking my dog along the river last night I reflected on the difference between our space-time reality and the time-space reality of our inner Being.

The more I could be fully present in the moment, the lighter I felt.

Lately, I’ve felt stagnant in life. And so I consciously chose to stop worrying. Worrying about my business. Worrying about money. Worrying about when I would meet my next partner.

It was a decision. Simple as that. And life was instantly better.

I revelled in the joy of watching my dog play in the water. I admired the trees. I appreciated the power of nature. I felt grateful for the beautiful week we just spent with my two cousins.

As I moved through our walk in this state, the passers-by started smiling and saying hello. Boris found a playmate to run around with. He also followed commands like a champ.

My problems didn’t go away. But that’s not the point. The point is that it’s better to feel good than bad.

By choosing to focus on the moment, I am here. “Wherever you are is called Here.”

In being Here, I embrace the unknown. “And you must treat it as a powerful stranger.”

In embracing the unknown, I raise my vibration and allow the law of attraction to bring what is meant for me to me. “The forest knows where you are. You must let it find you.”

I truly believe life shouldn’t be so hard. And the more we are able to release our need to control, the more we will be able to move through life with ease.

I’ve been practising inner work for years now. What I’m sharing here is not new information. But we all need reminders. To keep going. To keep raising our vibration. To keep moving towards alignment with our inner Being.

Where are you? Here.
What time is it? Now.
What are you? This moment.

If you want to speed up, slowing down might just be what you need.

But no matter where you are on your healing journey, always remember that YOU ARE ENOUGH.
